Using corn crop residue to make ethanol and other biofuels reduces soil carbon and can generate more greenhouse gases than gasoline, according to a study published today in the journal Nature Climate Change. The findings by a University of Nebraska-Lincoln team of researchers cast doubt on whether corn residue can be used to meet federal mandates to ramp up ethanol production and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The FM/AM tuner which threw in the outstanding circuitry technology and the material selected carefully in order to pursue the receiving performance as a tuner thoroughly in order to perform the reception stabilized also in all radio-wave statuses, and to reconcile an audio performance simultaneously.

A frequency linear-line type FM 5-unit variable condenser, the three low noise dual gates MOS FET, and one transistor are used for a front end part. Furthermore, the antenna attenuator switchpoint is also carried and the reception where the distance-reception region and the close range of the strong electric field were also stabilized is enabled.

The receiving band switching is carried in the IF section, and tone-quality serious consideration and receiving performance serious consideration are reconciled.

Two steps of flat delay characteristics 6 pole block filters are adopted at the time of the wide band focused on a tone quality, and the narrow-band 4 pole ceramics filter is used for the reception excellent in adjacency stonewalling exclusion capacity at the time of a narrow-band.

The PLL (phase locked loop) scheme which excelled [ section / the super-wide band ratio detection circuitry and / MPX ] in the differential demodulator circuit and the phase response is adopted. Thereby, over a large band, a linearity is good and makes possible the low distortion equivalent to an Integrated Amplifier.

The auto noise cancellar of photocoupler adoption is carried, at the time of a weak signal input, with the signal level, the amount of blends to right and left is changed automatically, and a noise is canceled. Thereby, the performance in use on Hearing impression is improving.

The ceramics filter with a double-tuned circuit, and two-element two coils etc. is adopted as AM tuner part for a tone quality or the improvement in selectivity.

The stabilizing supply by ±2 good power source of a regulation is adopted as each block stage, and the stable operation and tone-quality modification are aimed at.

The testing oscillator for a sound recording which can perform a proper level setups with the deck easily is built in.

As for a signal, 1kHz and level of -10dB at the time of an FM100% modulation are obtained. Moreover, this tone is an enable also at a phase checking and a right-and-left balance coordination of a speaker.

In order to avoid a beat with the deck, the low pass filter with a sharp property is carried.

The output-terminal only for a sound recording is carried.

Signal meter and a center tuning meter are adopted.

A flexible type AM bar antenna, the multipath observation termination, FM detection output-terminal, the 75ohmF type FM antenna termination, and the Output-voltage regulating function are carried.

The glass dial side without the fly wheel made from a heavy weight class sintered alloy or secular change is adopted.

Reuters reports on the successful SpaceX-carried resupply mission to the ISS: "A cargo ship owned by Space Exploration Technologies arrived at the International Space Station on Sunday, with a delivery of supplies and science experiments for the crew and a pair of legs for the experimental humanoid robot aboard that one day may be used in a spacewalk. Station commander Koichi Wakata used the outpost's 58-foot (18-meter) robotic crane to snare the Dragon capsule from orbit at 7:14 a.m. (1114 GMT), ending its 36-hour journey. ... "The Easter Dragon is knocking at the door," astronaut Randy Bresnik radioed to the crew from Mission Control in Houston. Space Exploration, known as SpaceX, had planned to launch its Dragon cargo ship in March, but was delayed by technical problems, including a two-week hold to replace a damaged U.S. Air Force radar tracking system."

The Technical Difficulty In Porting a PS3 Game To the PS4 The Last of Us was one of the last major projects for the PlayStation 3. The code optimization done by development studio Naughty Dog was a real technical achievement - making graphics look modern and impressive on a 7-year-old piece of hardware. Now, they're in the process of porting it to the much more capable PS4, which will end up being a technical accomplishment in its own right. Creative director Neil Druckmann said, 'Just getting an image onscreen, even an inferior one with the shadows broken, lighting broken and with it crashing every 30 seconds that took a long time. These engineers are some of the best in the industry and they optimized the game so much for the PS3's SPUs specifically. It was optimized on a binary level, but after shifting those things over [to PS4] you have to go back to the high level, make sure the [game] systems are intact, and optimize it again. I can't describe how difficult a task that is. And once it's running well, you're running the [versions] side by side to make sure you didn't screw something up in the process, like physics being slightly off, which throws the game off, or lighting being shifted and all of a sudden it's a drastically different look. That's not 'improved' any more; that's different. We want to stay faithful while being better.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370: Experts Unable To Replicate Satellite Company's An The lynchpin of the investigation of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has been the pings from the plane to one of Inmarsat's satellites. The pings are the sole evidence of what happened to the plane after it slipped out of radar contact. Without them, investigators knew only that the plane had enough fuel to travel anywhere within 3,300 miles of the last radar contact—a seventh of the entire globe. Inmarsat concluded that the flight ended in the southern Indian Ocean, and its analysis has become the canonical text of the Flight 370 search. It's the bit of data from which all other judgments flow—from the conclusive announcement by Malaysia's prime minister that the plane has been lost with no survivors, to the black-box search area, to the high confidence in the acoustic signals, to the dismissal by Australian authorities of a survey company's new claim to have detected plane wreckage. But scientists and engineers outside of the investigation have been working to verify Inmarsat's analysis and many say that it just doesn't hold up.

Google Testing Gmail Redesign Google is testing out some big changes for Gmail. Some of the changes are: the sidebar has been replaced with a slide-in pane, the 'compose' button has been moved, and there's a new feature called 'reminders'. From the article: 'Gmail may soon look nothing like the Gmail we all know so well. Google has invited a select group of users to test a completely new interface for the webmail client, according to Geek.com, which appears to be part of the trial. The test version of Gmail — which may never see an official release — dispenses with design elements that have been present from the very early days of the email service.

ARIN Is Down To the Last /8 of IPv4 Addresses On 3 February 2011, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) issued the remaining five /8 address blocks, each containing 16.7 million addresses, in the global free pool equally to the five RIRs, and as such ARIN is no longer able to receive additional IPv4 resources from the IANA. After yesterday's large allocation (104.64.0.0/10) to Akamai, the address pool remaining to be assigned by ARIN is now down to the last /8. This triggers stricter allocation rules and marks the end of general availability of new IPv4 addresses in North America. ARIN thus follows the RIRs of Asia, Europe and South America into the final phase of IPv4 depletion.

Implant Injects DNA Into Ear, Improves Hearing Many people with profound hearing loss have been helped by devices called cochlear implants, but their hearing is still far from perfect. They often have trouble distinguishing different musical pitches, for example, or hearing a conversation in a noisy room. Now, researchers have found a clever way of using cochlear implants to deliver new genes into the ear — a therapy that, in guinea pigs, dramatically improves hearing (abstract).
